Who we are
Owen Sound Harvest For Hunger is a project of Owen Sound Alliance Church. Harvest For Hunger encompasses pooled resources, both human and financial, working collaboratively together in a Christian response to global hunger. A donation of just $150, when matched by the Government will feed a family of five for a year in sub-Saharan Africa. Supported by the Foodgrains Bank and the Government of Canada, Harvest For Hunger, together with its gracious supporters, aims to end hunger in 40 countries around the world.
2020 Fun Day at the Farm Canceled
We are very disappointed to announce that we will not be holding our Annual Fun Day at the Farm this summer. Due to Covid-19, we must first and foremost keep everyone’s health and safety in mind. This does leave a very large hole in our Fundraising for Canadian Foodgrains.
However, crops have been planted by two local farmers, and the proceeds from these soybeans will be sent to Canadian Foodgrains, to help those in need. Although life has changed for us here in Canada, with most events and festivals cancelled, food security is even more challenging for people in other countries. We are looking at other options to raise money for this worthwhile cause.
In our first five years, we have been able to send over $142,000 to Canadian Foodgrains. This money is matched 4:1 by the Canadian government when providing food for those in need, and matched 2:1 when teaching them how to grow their own food and become more self sufficient, or when teaching them about nutrition and health. This has been making an impact on the African countries we have been supporting, but the need is magnified with the Covid-19 crisis.
Although, we will not be holding a public event this year, you can still help out by making a donation. Donations can be made through our website once we get the link up shortly, or you may email email@example.com for other options. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generous support in the past. May you continue to be blessed by helping and blessing those less fortunate.
2019 Fundraising Results
For 2019, Owen Sound Harvest for Hunger was able to raise $31,214.92 for Canadian Foodgrains, bringing the total raised over the last five years to $142,907 (and as usual, these figures do not include Canadian government matching funds, which are matched at a rate up to 4:1)! This would not have been possible without all of our sponsors, farmers, volunteers, and everyone else who donated, participated, and attended the Fun Day at the Farm last year and who made this event so wonderful. Because of your generosity, we were able to raise so much for those in need, thank you!
As a supporter or volunteer, you can help us achieve our goals:
Our main goal is to help provide food for kids, parents and families that are in need.
This project helps to increase visibility for the work of Canadian Foodgrains Bank.
We’re able to build community in our rural neighbourhood by working together on a project!
We work together on this project with people who are not directly involved in primary production.
We now have the great opportunity to host an event that both entertains and educates the public!
Give Glory To God
Last but not least, Harvest For Hunger enables us all to give so much glory to God.
